We Finally Know Why Bulma Was Such a Necessary Character in ‘Dragon Ball DAIMA’ and It Doesn’t Help the Anime’s Case

The nineteenth episode of Dragon Ball DAIMA recently aired on February 21, 2025, and while it has gained a lot of traction because of the battles and transformations within the scene, it has also made a disappointing revelation. The episode finally brought the cast to their original forms thanks to Glorio’s wish, and it also explained why Bulma was such a necessary character in Dragon Ball DAIMA.

While her skills as an engineer and a scientist certainly helped in adding substance to her character, it didn’t make much sense as there was another character with similar skills in technology. Thus, fans were quite doubtful about what she was actually contributing to the Dragon Ball DAIMA’s narrative and whether or not she was needed in the central storyline.

But episode 19 makes it look like her role was added to the story so that she can help clear out some details about Vegeta and the priority changes he has gone through ever since he landed on Earth. He has proved that his Saiyan pride has taken a back seat and his love for Bulma in Dragon Ball tops everything else.

Dragon Ball DAIMA reveals Bulma’s control over Vegeta

Ever since Dragon Ball DAIMA started, the one thing that every Dragon Ball fan has been talking about is the connection between Vegeta and his wife Bulma. The series has put a special focus on their relationship and has pointed out multiple different aspects that give fans a detailed description of how the two Dragon Ball characters have grown over time.

From Vegeta constantly acting as a protector of Bulma to Bulma playing the role of the ideal wife, the two have come a long way from how they actually started. However, episode 19 of Dragon Ball DAIMA not only shows a completely different side of their relationship but also explains why Bulma was included in the current storyline.

During one of the most crucial battles in Dragon Ball DAIMA’s history, where Vegeta is taking on Gomah, one of the most annoying but dangerous villains, Goku, and the team come up with a plan to take him down. But Vegeta refuses to leave the fight until he dies, highlighting his Saiyan pride. However, Bulma pulls out the big guns and threatens Vegeta that she won’t take a “bath” with him if he doesn’t stop immediately.

As Vegeta understands the intensity of the situation, he returns back to the ground and lets Goku and the others take center stage. It truly reflects that the love for his wife exceeds his Saiyan pride, which was the most important thing for him in the past.

Bulma’s role in Dragon Ball DAIMA explained

While episode 19 of Dragon Ball DAIMA shines a new light on Bulma and Vegeta’s relationship, it doesn’t help the anime series in a big way. Instead, it hurts Bulma’s character development in the entire series. The episode makes it clear that her role was only introduced to highlight Vegeta’s growth and the changes in priorities he has gone through over the years.

While the argument can be made that Bulma’s skills as a technological genius were used somewhat in the series, another Dragon Ball DAIMA character, Panzy, had the same technological skills, and their role was ideally interchangeable in the series.

Apart from her role in Vegeta’s personal plot, Bulma could have been easily replaced, and her absence would not have had much impact on the story.

This proves that while Dragon Ball DAIMA is indeed a great storyline, it essentially wasted Bulma as a character. This is quite sad considering the fact that she was one of the most significant characters in the entire Dragon Ball franchise.

Dragon Ball DAIMA is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
