Naruto Theory: The Akatsuki Had One Member Who Could Use Perfect Sage Mode but Kishimoto Never Explained Why

We all know how cool and edgy Sage Mode is in Naruto. But other than that, it is a broken ability that takes years to master. Only a handful of ninjas can tap into its potential and eventually master it. Jiraiya and the knucklehead ninja are perfect examples, however, there may be someone else as well.

According to our theory, an Akatsuki member might potentially hold mastery in Senjutsu. This could also tie well with his unrivaled abilities and strength that are yet to be explained by the mangaka. But what we do know is that the character had some of the coolest drip in the series nonetheless.

Akatsuki’s Sage Mode master in Naruto

Sage Mode or Senjutsu is one of the most iconic transformations in the series. The jutsu itself however takes years for a ninja to master completely which is precisely why it remains one of the biggest feats for Naruto. But this might potentially hold a connection to one of the notorious ninjas in Akatsuki.

In particular, Kisame may have mastered Senjutsu which isn’t expanded on by Masashi Kishimoto. This ties in well with his ability to shapeshift by fusing with Samehada. His excellent chakra control is due to his synchronicity with his sword but also his fluency in water-style jutsu but there’s more to it.

Besides chakra absorption, he can effortlessly summon a thousand sharks in the battle. Even in his weakened state, he broke free when he was questioned. The allusion to the shark is another reason why this theory makes sense for the most part which is also evident with his descendant Shizuma Hoshigaki.

Jiraiya and Kabuto are proficient Senjutsu users who take on animal attributes while honing their chakra. Similarly, Kisame’s shark build and physique could be tied to an unspoken and uncharted form of Shark Sage Art which is yet to be explored. But this doesn’t take away the level of edginess his character had.

It’s all about the drip

Kisame Hoshigaki is one of the strongest and goated Akatsuki members in the series. He truly lives up to his name which roughly translates to the Demon Shark in terms of his appearance, abilities, and even his persona. His ruthlessness for instance is something that personifies it on several occasions.

From killing Fuguki Suikazan to assassinating his comrades, Kisame’s brutality stemmed from his loyalty and credibility. This was seen when he chose to be devoured by sharks rather than being used for intel. It stands as one of the most legendary moments that proved that his character had the most drip.

Before Akatsuki, he was a member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist and was feared by many. He partook in the tradition of sharpening teeth to display his loyalty to them. It also resonates well with the mangaka’s use of animal allusions in his series.

But what makes him commendable is his tale of loyalty and betrayal especially at the hands of Samehada. The foreshadowing of his death has to be one of the most theatrical moments that would give fans goosebumps to this date. It only validates and heightens the relevance and impact of his character.

The parallels, the foreshadowing and the imagery only prove why Kishimoto is anything but a bad writer. As for Kisame’s potential senjutsu, we can only hope for Boruto to possibly expand on it.

Naruto is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is available for reading on Shueisha’s Manga Plus app.
