Honorable Joseph Osei Owusu, the Member of Parliament for Bekwai, has vehemently denied accusations that members of the Appointment Committee accept bribes to facilitate the approval of potential ministers during their vetting.
In an interview on Asetene PA with Akoto Mansa monitored by MyNewsGH, Osei Owusu addressed these claims head-on, emphasizing the importance of evidence when making serious allegations.
“It is not true that members of the Appointment Committee receive bribes,” he asserted. “Ghanaians often make wild allegations without any shred of evidence, and this bribe claim is just another illustration of this behavior.”
The Bekwai MP also took the opportunity to reflect on his tenure in Parliament, highlighting some of his key contributions to his constituency.
He discussed how he utilized the government’s Common Fund to promote development in the area, emphasizing his commitment to his people.
“As a representative of my people, I have worked tirelessly to ensure the development of my constituency.
“Using the Common Fund, I’ve been able to facilitate projects that have positively impacted my community,” he shared proudly.
Osei Owusu also shared a personal insight into his political journey, recounting how he was approached by the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to become the running mate of then-Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the party’s flagbearer selection.
Despite the high honor, Osei Owusu explained that he ultimately turned down the offer due to health reasons.
“I was poised to become the running mate, but I had to decline because of my health at the time.
“The party hierarchy, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, personally called me and asked me to explain why I was refusing the offer,” he revealed.
