American rower Gemma Wollenschlaeger was born on August 11, 2003, and she was selected for the first national team in 2023. In the PR3 mixed doubles sculls at the 2023 Para Rowing Regatta to Paris, she took home a gold medal. In the mixed varsity eight at the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championships, she placed third. Gemma is eligible to compete in the Paris Paralympics in 2024.

Wollenschlaeger has qualified for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. This summer, she earned a spot on the US Para Rowing team that competed in the 2023 World Rowing Championships. Wollenschlaeger and her teammate Todd Vogt won the 2023 Para Rowing Regatta to Paris. They also won a silver medal at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

She will compete with the national team at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France. The games begin on August 28 and end on September 8. After the United States performed well at the World Rowing Championships, Wollenschlaeger took part in the nation’s selection camp process.

In Sarasota, Florida, this process came to an end last weekend. She is one of the six chosen athletes who is a first-time Paralympian. Alongside Ben Washburne, Alex Flynn, Skylar Dahl, and cox Emilie Eldracher, Wollenschlaeger will compete.

Gemma Wollenschlaeger’s Age, Early Life, and Education

Gemma Wollenschlaeger was born on August 11, 2003, in St. Augustine Beach, Florida, United States. Her parents are Lezanna and Alan Wollenschlaeger. She is 5 feet 11 inches (180 cm) tall and weighs 157 pounds (71 kg).

Gemma attended Archbishop Spalding High School and rowed for Annapolis Junior Rowing. She was the team captain in her senior year. Gemma made the first varsity team in her junior year. She tried many other sports while growing up, but rowing stuck with her the most. Currently, she is a student at Temple University, studying Accounting, and will graduate in 2025.

Her hobbies include trying new restaurants, traveling, being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and singing songs from the 2000s. She has not decided on a major at Temple yet. Her uncle, Luke Wollenschlaeger, holds the world record on the rowing machine for his age group. Gemma considers her family her personal heroes because they remind her of who she is and support her in everything.

Gemma enjoys eating food from new places, traveling, being outside, and being around family and friends. She has never had coffee before. She tried various sports, but rowing was the one that stuck with her. After rowing, Gemma would like to travel and explore the world. Her favorite place to travel is South Africa because her family is from there. She is a big fan of singing along to music from the 2000s.

Gemma Wollenschlaeger has been in a relationship with Luca Arvanitis since 2019.

Luca Arvanitis was a lightweight rower and is currently a student at Bucknell University. He grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland, United States, and attended Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.

He is 6 feet tall (182 cm) and weighs 150 pounds (68 kg). His rowing club is Bethesda Chevy Chase Crew Boosters.

What has Gemma Wollenschlaeger won recently

In 2022, Wollenschlaeger was named the Temple Women’s Rowing Newcomer of the Year. She also earned second-team All-AAC honors in the same year.

In 2023, Wollenschlaeger won a Silver medal in the PR3 mixed double sculls event at the World Rowing Championships. She also won a Gold medal in the PR3 mixed double sculls at the Para Rowing Regatta to Paris.

Wollenschlaeger and the Temple Varsity 8 team earned a third-place finish at the conference championships. This was the first time a Temple Varsity 8 has won a medal at the conference since 2016. At the American Athletic Conference Championships in the mixed varsity eight event, they had a time of 6:36.528.

In 2023, Gemma earned first-team All-AAC honors. She was also named the Temple Women’s Rowing’s Athlete of the Year in 2023.
