Episode 7 of Solo Leveling: Arise is here, and in it, Jinwoo decides to visit the Demon Castle again. This time, the quest is harder than ever as the forces that he is met with seem intelligent demons. He quickly defeats them but one problem still persists.
No matter what, Jinwoo cannot extract the shadows of the demons he defeats in the Demon Castle, which has made fans wonder why that is so. Nonetheless, some more surprises are still left in the bag.
Sung Jinwoo encounters the coolest demons in Solo Leveling
In episode 19 of Solo Leveling, Jinwoo encounters some special shadows who are called Demon Knights. They seem different than other monsters he has faced in dungeons because they seem to be able to hunt more wisely than the rest. In fact, Jinwoo notices that they are specifically targeting the shadows who are weaker than them.
When the demons reveal themselves, one can only awe over their character designs. These demon knights are probably some of the coolest-looking demons in the entire series. And the fact that Jinwoo cannot extract them is a shame.

The fact that these demons are more intelligent than the rest also means they would make a huge contribution to Jinwoo’s team. While most of the shadows are subservient to Jinwoo, the demon knights are the ones who show the most individuality and intelligence that can rival him. Thus, it is only expected that Jinwoo would crave shadows like these.
Why can’t Jinwoo extract the shadows of the demons in the Demon Castle?
Jinwoo’s special skill is the extraction of shadows of those he has killed. So far, he has Igris, Iron, Tusk, and the Ice Bears. However, not everyone can become shadows, as exhibited by Baruka from the Red Dungeon Incident.
Similarly, Jinwoo cannot extract any shadows from the Demon Castle. Why? Because the Demon Castle was created by the system to build up Sung Jinwoo’s power so he can inherit the strength of Ashborn. Additionally, the souls of the demons in the castle are corrupted, making them unsuitable to be extracted.
Thus, the Demon Castle is just a stepping stone for Jinwoo and not where he can build up his shadow army. The dungeons, however, are another issue altogether. But worry not, because soon Jinwoo will find some unlikely allies in the castle. Esil Radiru, a demon noble will aid Jinwoo’s quest. While it is not the same as extracting a shadow, it is the closest that fans will get to seeing the Demon Knights on Jinwoo’s side.
