Research on the abysmal performance of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections, especially in the Ashanti Region, has ruled out religion and tribe as the cause of the party’s failure in the 2024 elections.
The study was conducted in all 47 constituencies and used both qualitative and quantitative methods to gather data, where a team was employed to visit the constituencies to administer the questionnaires to 2,559 respondents.
According to the Executive Summary, other factors rather than religion and tribe caused the defeat of the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections.
“Around 98% of the respondents believe religion and tribe did not play a role in the election
outcome. Many respondents expressed their disappointments for the reason why this research work could not be carried out till after the election has been lost,” parts of the Executive Summary said.
To many, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his family had hijacked the administration, something they did not like.
Others also mentioned that the government was embroiled in a number of corruption scandals adding that they thought Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as President would have Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the shadows dictating the affairs of the country.
What was even more troubling to the Ashanti Region was the fact that the party and the government had neglected the Ashanti Region.
“The perception that President Akufo-Addo’s government neglected the Ashanti in the development of infrastructure, especially roads; the perception that there was a disconnect between the Regional Party and the constituency parties; the acrimony within the Regional party; the conflicts in the constituency parties which were brought down from the 2020 constituency primaries at all levels; including the conduct of parliamentary primaries which were not sufficiently addressed and which got escalated in 2024,” the research said.
