Sebastian Stan has been making his talent known in Hollywood for years now. While most know him for his captivating performance as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recent years have shown him to be so much more than the former Winter Soldier.

While audiences knew of works like Fresh, and I, Tonya, it wasn’t until his Oscar nomination for The Apprentice that he started to get serious critical acclaim. However, years before even starring in the MCU, Stan was a recurring character on Gossip Girl.
It would seem that getting recognition for his acting skills wasn’t the only thing that came out of Stan’s performance as Carter Baizen in Blake Lively’s iconic series.
Sebastian Stan’s years on Gossip Girl were iconic
Gossip Girl was easily responsible for making many careers. Although Blake Lively’s professional life has been on somewhat of a dip in the past few months, several other successful actors have come out of the main cast of the series, ranging from Penn Badgley to Chace Crawford.

One such actor was Sebastian Stan, not having many notable works before starring in the series other than Hot Tub Time Machine. Playing the role of Carter Baizen over the course of three seasons, his character held quite a lot of agency in the series and had some very impactful moments in the story as a whole.
Although Baizen was one of the most insufferable characters in the series, Stan was quite loved by fans for more reasons than one. What started as rumors initially turned into Stan dating Blair Waldorf herself. Stan and Leighton Meester were frequently spotted together and became beloved by fans during their relationship.

Dating from 2008 to 2010, it would seem that their relationship was very impactful for Stan.
Acting experience wasn’t the only thing that Sebastian Stan got out of Gossip Girl
In 2009, Sebastian Stan was giving an interview for one of his films (via UsWeekly), where he ended up talking about his relationship with Leighton Meester, a year before their split. He stated that he felt very lucky about his relationship with her, and the comment only made fans swoon about their romance.
I’m a really lucky guy. She’s the most interesting, sophisticated, talented, and an extremely funny person that I know. She’s really hilarious.

Years have passed since then, and both have far past moved on. Meester is famously married to Adam Brody and Stan is in a relationship with Annabelle Wallis. However, Stan still seems to look back at the time he spent on Gossip Girl and with Meester very fondly. In an interview with Variety, he spoke on the same, and his words are heartwarming.
It was the first time I was in serious love with somebody.
The actor confessed that working on the series was life-changing for him, more than just in a professional sense. The actor revealed that he fell in love for the very first time in the series, implying that Meester was his first love. It is safe to assume that the actor still cherishes the connection they shared even though they both have moved on.
