The team put together by the Ashanti Regional Chairman to ascertain the cause of the party’s misfortune in the December 2024 elections, especially in the Ashanti Region has identified some of the major causes of NPP’s defeat.
A study conducted in all 47 constituencies used both qualitative and quantitative methods to gather data, where a team was employed to visit the constituencies to administer the questionnaires to 2,559 respondents.
In the executive summary of the research, which has been leaked on social media, the major cause of the NPP’s defeat was the delegate system used for electing a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates.
Another major reason highlighted was the economic challenges Ghanaians were plunged into by the previous government.
Also, the corruption tag around various government appointees played a major role. To add to this was the perception that the government was controlled by the family of the former president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
On candidate Bawumia, the perception that he was going to be under the shadows of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was a major reason why he was voted against. To add to that, he was perceived to have played a major role in the chieftaincy conflict in Bawku.
From the research done, 98% of the respondents believe religion and tribe did not play any role in the outcome of the 2024 elections.
