Even when things are slow on Netflix, the streamer has a seemingly endless supply of shows to watch.
Since Netflix’s algorithm seems to suggest the new programs first, it’s really easy to miss some of the series that have come and gone.
That’s why What to Watch has put together this quick guide to the three underrated Netflix shows you need to watch this weekend.
Between this recently returned romantic dramedy, a supernatural mystery starring Milo Manheim and one of the most gonzo series in AMC’s history, you may need to take a few extra days to see them all.
Survival of the Thickest’ Celebrates Curvy Women Wearing What They Want
‘Survival of the Thickest’ (2023 – Present)
It’s been almost two years since the premiere of Survival of the Thickest Season 1, which stars series co-creator Michelle Buteau as Mavis Beaumont. Mavis is a middle-aged woman who is trying to start over in life and find love again. In the first season finale, Mavis made a grand gesture of love and hopped on a plane to see her long-distance guy, Luca (Marouane Zotti), in Italy before sharing her true feelings.
But don’t expect Survival of the Thickest to start a new chapter in Italy. The newly released Season 2 episodes will bring Mavis back to America soon enough as she decides to keep working on herself and building out her dream as a stylist.
Survival of the Thickest is streaming on Netflix.
‘School Spirits’ (2023 – Present)
Cobra Kai’s Peyton List is moonlighting as the lead actress of the Paramount+ original series, School Spirits, which is temporarily haunting Netflix. But there’s nothing temporary about the haunting of Maddie Nears (List). She’s a ghost now, and stuck roaming the halls of her school with all of the other spirits that linger there.
‘School Spirits’ Renewed for Season 3, Set to Return in 2026
Maddie isn’t even sure what happened to her body or how she died. And it’s really hard for her to get answers when she’s confined to the school grounds. If Maddie is going to solve this mystery, then she’s going to need help from the living and the dead. Season 2 is currently streaming on Paramount+ and a third season is on the way.

‘Preacher’ (2016 – 2019)
The title character of Preacher, Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), would just be another small-town man of God if he weren’t imbued with a power that lets him command almost anyone in creation. Men and angels alike can fall under Custer’s command, and that makes him dangerous.
Prior to receiving the word of God into his body, Jesse was having a crisis of faith. Now that he knows God has essentially abandoned his responsibilities as the supreme being, Jesse is out to find him alongside ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and his new best friend, an alcoholic vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun). As wild as all of that sounds, the show gets even weirder and funnier as it goes on. With four seasons’ worth of stories to explore, you’ll probably need more than one weekend to watch it all. That’s a good problem to have, though, and Preacher is worth it.
