Frances’ daughter Aoife said her mum is ‘unbelievable’[/caption]

After decades of showbiz experience, Frances entered the world of politics back in 2016 when she was elected as a Senator, as an independent candidate.

The Dublin native was re-elected in 2020 and again in 2025, as well as being a member of the Civil Engagement Group in 2025.

President Michael D Higgins was inaugurated for his second term on November 11, 2018.

This means that the next presidential election is due to take place on or up to 60 days before November 11, 2025.

And the 64-year-old is the current favourite at 4/1 on Paddy Power.

Host Patrick Kielty grilled Frances on her potential bid to run for presidency on the show tonight as he asked: “Are you seriously considering that?”

Frances replied: “I’m not seeking this by any means.”

Patrick looked for a straight answer as he said: “Ah that’s not what I’m asking.”

Frances replied: “People have asked me…”

The Down native cut across her and said: “Who asked you, who?”

Frances revealed: “Some opposition parties, they said, ‘Are you up for the conversation?’

“Well they haven’t chosen. There’s been no decisions made. I’ve said I’m open to the conversation. But there probably will be other people actively seeking this. I’m not but I’m open to the conversation.

“I haven’t made any decisions and that’s the truth.”

Frances’ daughter Aoife seemed more keen on the idea as she backed her mum saying: “She would make an unbelievable president.

“She’s the most caring, loving and Irish person that you could possibly be. She cares about Ireland so much and I think that would be unbelievable.

FAN SUPPORT

“I’m not sure I want to share her but I wouldn’t mind a bedroom in the Aras either.”

RTE viewers were all left saying the same thing about Frances after her interview.

One fan said: “Now Frances Black is a president that Ireland could be proud of.”

Mary tweeted: “Is Francis Black laying out her stall for the President’s job??”

Kevin added: “She’d be a great choice.”

Eileen remarked: “Beautiful girls – have loved Frances singing for many years now!!! Frances for president!!!!”
