Activision’s Call of Duty forever changed the entire first-person shooter genre. Each title in the series is a narrative masterpiece on its own, and although very few of them have sort of revolutionized warfare games, almost all of the installments in the franchise are an absolute delight to experience.
Activision has forever leaned toward a pay-to-win revenue model with their battle pass system, and now Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 3 are returning with their most controversial battle pass option that you can use for your cash-fueled victory. Of course, we are talking about BlackCell.

Let’s delve deeper into why BlackCell is a controversial income system and what it is bringing to the new season of Call of Duty.
Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 3 will probably be pay to win
In Activision’s recent blog post, they revealed that CoD: Black Ops 6 and Warzone season 3 is returning with the BlackCell battle pass, and it is going to bring some exclusive rewards and more benefits for the players who own the premium battle pass. Now you might be asking yourself, “what is the BlackCell battle pass?” and we are here to provide you with that answer.
Even though Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone already have a battle pass of their own in the games, BlackCell is like the more premium alternative to the existing battle pass. Unlike the normal battle pass, which you can buy with CoD points if you grind in the game hard enough. But if you want to buy BlackCell, you will have to spend real money on the game to actually own it and use its benefits.
The premium ‘premium’ battle pass provides the players with many great rewards like the battle pass of the game itself and twenty tiers of the battle pass skipped, which means you will unlock stuff in the BP faster. A bonus sector of the BP is not accessible unless you buy BlackCell. And some new skin variants, known as the BlackCell variant. In this new season, BlackCell owners now get extra daily challenges.
According to the Call of Duty blog post, BlackCell battle pass owners will receive extra daily challenges for the entirety of this season, and these challenges will be available for all the multiplayer modes of the game. This gives players who own BlackCell a chance to earn more XP than usual and also renders the regular battle pass almost useless.
Activision needs to balance the game while keeping a profit from the game

This is not the first time that the BlackCell battle pass has stirred up some debate, and now that Activision is bringing it back to Season 3 of Warzone and Black Ops 6, it is surely not going to be the last time. With its exclusive perks, faster progression, and flashy cosmetics, it truly just asks one question, and that is whether the game is about skill or can players just win by emptying out their pockets.
As Black Ops 6 and Warzone season 3 unfold, it remains a concern whether BlackCell will just be a fun addition to the game or is it going to increase the gap between casual and paying players even bigger. All in all, it just depends on Activision and how they are willing to balance the game while still turning a profit.
