With Patapon 1+2 Replay Heading to Nintendo Switch, Sony Reminds Xbox Fans They’re Second-Class

2024 was an exciting time for Xbox fans as there were tons of new games to dig into. However, it was also the year when the brand took its first step towards a multiplatform strategy. Microsoft ported a number of first-party exclusives, such as Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves, to competitors such as PlayStation and Switch.

Considering Xbox’s commitment to gamers, many thought that PlayStation would return the favor by porting a number of its exclusive titles to the competing platform. While Genshin Impact did make the jump, it’s still unknown what’s going to happen with other Sony exclusives.

However, it seems like Sony believes Xbox fans are second-class citizens. It’s been announced that Patapon 1+2 Replay will be making its way to Nintendo Switch, but Xbox will be left out of the equation.

Patapon 1+2 Replay‘s release on Switch is a big blow to Xbox

Patapon debuted all the way back in 2007 and was developed by Pyramid and the now-defunct Japan Studio. Within a matter of weeks, Patapon became a smash hit among PSP players as it featured innovative gameplay mechanics. There was a sequel in 2008 and a third game in 2011.

The first two Patapon games were then ported to the PS4 by 2020. Recently, even the third entry was added to the PlayStation Plus Premium classics catalog. However, Patapon is now making its debut on a rival console. The latest Nintendo Direct has announced that Patapon 1+2 Replay will be released on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS5 on 11th July 2025.

Even though Patapon is a Sony-owned franchise, the upcoming remastered collection is in the hands of Bandai Namco Entertainment. There are going to be tons of new accessibility features in the game and additional improvements. As of now, there’s still no word on what the pricing of Patapon 1+2 Replay might be.

Many in the community can’t understand Sony’s decision not to include Patapon 3 in this remastered collection. However, the bigger question is why Xbox has been left out again. If Sony has allowed for Switch release, it’s ready to partner up with rival consoles. It proves that Xbox is still a low priority for Sony even though Microsoft has taken major steps towards ending platform exclusivity for gamers.

Other Sony games coming to Nintendo Switch

It’s not just Patapon 1+2 Replay that’s coming to the Switch; there are tons of legacy PlayStations IPs that are soon going to get an official port.

Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots is one of the latest entries in the beloved Everybody’s Golf franchise. It’s been crafted under the leadership of Bandai Namco and will also be released on Switch, PS5, and PC later this year.

Sony has also released a remaster of the Freedom Wars on Switch on January 2. Last November, the company also launched LEGO Horizon Adventures on the handheld.

All of these releases prove that Sony is more than willing to bring its iconic IPs to Nintendo players. Let’s hope the company can take this multiplatform venture to the next level and finally treat Xbox with respect as well.
