“I still think Marvel is tricking us”: New Thunderbolts* Trailer Pretty Much Confirms the Character Who’ll Die but Fans Still Believe Kevin Feige Is Deceiving Us

There’s a lot of speculation surrounding the fate of one Thunderbolts* character following intriguing promotional materials from Marvel Studios.

The hunch that Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster might die in the upcoming movie came after the studio announced the lineup for Avengers: Doomsday, and she’s not part of the cast, while her other costars in Thunderbolts* were mentioned.

Taskmaster wasn’t prominently featured as well in the official teaser trailer, giving fans the hint that she might not actually make it out alive in the film. Despite all these theories, some believe it’s only a ruse created by Kevin Feige, either to mislead or surprise the viewers.

Marvel fans believe Taskmaster’s rumored death could be a trick

Thunderbolts* is only a few weeks away from its worldwide premiere, and fans have been looking forward to seeing these beloved antiheroes again on the big screen in a new and exciting mission. Just recently, Marvel Studios announced the cast members who will show up in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, and Olga Kurylenko was shockingly left out.

This and the minimal exposure of the character in the trailer footage were enough clues for some fans to believe that Taskmaster might meet her death very soon. This isn’t a confirmation, though, and this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. In fact, others refused to believe that it’s going to be the last appearance of the skilled mercenary.

On Reddit, several users expressed their skepticism over the theory that Taskmaster is going to die and suggested that MCU boss Kevin Feige could only be deceiving us. It’s not a far-fetched idea, honestly, because they’ve done this a couple of times before. Read their thoughts below:

The inconsistency of Taskmaster’s appearance in both the teaser trailer and the latest TV spot could be a hint that they are brewing something and they need a distraction, or they are making us believe what they want us to believe. Either way, it’s still a very suspicious move from the studio to carelessly spoil a character’s fate just like that.

Olga Kurylenko doesn’t want to spoil anything about Thunderbolts*

Even the actress remains tight-lipped about her role as Taskmaster in Thunderbolts*. She has previously said very little about what fans can expect from the film, just like when she kept her role a secret in 2021’s Black Widow.

The live-action Taskmaster faced backlash due to gender-swapping, although some fans hope that the character will have a better portrayal this time. At this point, there is confusion on how much or how little she will be in the film, but one thing’s for sure—her fate will be decided once the movie comes out in a few weeks!

Thunderbolts* hits theatres on May 2, 2025.
