Actress Eiza González has built a successful acting career in Hollywood with a number of well-acclaimed projects to her name. This includes movies like Baby Driver, I Care a Lot, and Godzilla vs. Kong, to name a few.
But even with such an impressive resume, she also had her fair share of struggles in the industry. And during one interview she dived deeper into how a difficult audition left a lasting impression on her.

Not only that, but she also mentioned that it affected her confidence to a great extent and made her question her place in Hollywood.
How did a brutal audition almost end Eiza González’s acting dreams?
With several high-profile movies to her name, actress Eiza González is a force to be reckoned with in the industry. But despite this success, the road to Hollywood stardom wasn’t easy for her, as many hoped. She detailed just this when she made an appearance on Hot Ones via Just Jared and shared a deeply personal story about herself.

González talked about her very first audition in the United States; while she was excited, it soon turned out to be her biggest nightmare. So much so that she even contemplated quitting acting altogether.
She was quite nervous when she walked into the room. But even before she could get through her lines, the casting director abruptly stopped her. The actress detailed the entire story of what happened:
My first audition was soul crushing. I was, I don’t even remember, it was like an NBC probably TV show. Like a pilot season yeah. And so, I’m standing there and I’m reading my lines and this lady was not really nice. And she’s like just stop. Just stop.
She continued:
And I’m reading and she’s like you know what you’re gonna work because you’re pretty but you really are really bad. And I felt so embarrassed with myself. I came back home and I was like I want to go home, I don’t like this. And it scarred me to death.
These hurtful words were quite a lot for her to handle and left her embarrassed and questioning whether she belonged in the industry. So, she returned home that day convinced that maybe she doesn’t have what it takes to make it big in Hollywood.
While the rejection was obviously soul-crushing, she refused to let it define her. And instead of this, she pushed forward with determination and perseverance, leading to the career she has today.
How did Eiza González lose the Catwoman role to Zoë Kravitz?
Hollywood is filled with “what could have been” casting stories; even Eiza González had one of her own. In an interview via Comic Book, the actress made a revelation that she was, in fact, among the final contenders to play Catwoman in The Batman.

While the role ultimately went to Zoë Kravitz, González made it far in the audition process and had reached the camera test stage as well. Though she didn’t get to play the iconic character, she added that the entire process was quite exciting and disheartening.
In the same conversation, she also added that she doesn’t see herself entering the superhero genre anytime soon and said:
I don’t see it happening. I mean, it’s like my opportunity has been there and it’s not happened for me. So I think it’s just not in the cards for Eiza Gonzalez, which is OK. I’m, I’m ok with it. Actually, I think that when I was younger, I was like, it really excited me and obviously like this point, it’s been so many years.
She continued:
I was so excited when I was like, camera tested for ‘The Batman.’ And that whole process was shocking and I couldn’t believe it because I was especially such a huge fan of Catwoman. And in that moment, I was like, you know, distraught that I didn’t get it.
While she had a tough time dealing with thais rejection, she has somewhat made peace with it. While this role couldn’t materialize, she played Auggie Salazar in Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, and her recently released Ash is making huge waves at the box office.
This sci-fi thriller is directed by Flying Lotus, and in this, González plays Riya, an astronaut who wakes up on a distant planet to find her entire crew murdered. The movie is met with good reviews, with everyone applauding the actress for her gripping performance.
