Vince McMahon had a fall from grace in 2022, the man who had everything, lost it all in only a matter of days. The former WWE mainman relinquished his roles as CEO and chairman of WWE in June 2022 during an internal investigation into allegations of hush-money payments tied to affairs with former WWE employees. Subsequently, in January 2024, he resigned from TKO following accusations of sex trafficking and sexual assault.
Though most of his loved ones turned their back on McMahon, some still came to his support and John Cena was one of them. The 16-time WWE champion in an interview, stated that he still loves the former WWE CEO and will continue doing so no matter what.

John Cena in an interview with the Associated Press, talked about how his point of view has not changed a bit even after the sexual allegations and legal lawsuits forced Vince McMahon to step down from the company he built.
Everyone has the right to have their perspective. I have the right to have mine. When you love somebody, you take them as imperfectly perfect as they are,” Cena said. “We all make mistakes, we all have poor decisions. Lord knows I’ve made my collection of poor choices. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to love somebody. There’s no way I can go on record and say I don’t love Vince McMahon.
On The Howard Stern Show, Cena talked about how he witnessed several close associates of McMahon abandon him after the legal charges, and vowed never to be one of them.
There’s the saying of, hey, you don’t know who your friends are until the shit hits the fan or your back’s against the wall,” John Cena said. “That doesn’t make any of what’s going on any easier to swallow. But just telling somebody, ‘I love you. Man, this is gonna be a hill to climb. We’re gonna see what happens, and that’s that.’
John Cena and Vince McMahon shared a close and amicable bond, with McMahon instrumental in propelling Cena’s career by providing him with his breakthrough moment in WWE. In turn, Cena stood by McMahon’s side during his darkest times, exemplifying their mutual respect and loyalty.

In June 2022, Vince McMahon stepped down from his position as the CEO and Chairman of the WWE after he found himself in legal turmoil for paying $3 million to cover up an alleged affair with a different employee.
Just a month into the investigation, reports of Vince McMahon paying more than $12 million to four women over the last 16 years to cover up allegations of infidelity and sexual misconduct came out, serving as the final nail in the coffin.
Although McMahon has stepped down, he still holds a 9.88% ownership stake in TKO Group Holdings(the parent company of WWE and UFC). However, the absence of voting rights has significantly limited his power and influence within the promotion.
