You may have studios like Ufotable, MAPPA, or Toei Animation reigning at the top of the charts for making the most popular anime with insane animation and all. But how can one forget WIT Studio, which single-handedly brought Isayama’s Attack on Titan to life, and impressively, it was their first anime after the studio’s foundation!
Ever since then, WIT Studio has never disappointed fans with their classy adaptations; even their original anime series choices have been exceptionally impressive. However, beating their Attack on Titan legacy seemed impossible for a very long time until now. With the release of Netflix’s Moonrise trailer, however, things are looking really interesting!

So, how much can we expect from WIT Studio’s team this time? What are the odds that Moonrise may actually be their most ambitious project since Attack on Titan and might even surpass or catch up to its popularity?
WIT’s journey in the anime industry has been nothing short of phenomenal
WIT Studio’s journey in the anime industry has only been filled with ups and downs, for most of the part at least. Not only did they create Attack on Titan, but they’re also responsible for the masterclass adaptation of the classic Seinen manga Vinland Saga. And let’s not forget about Ranking of Kings, Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, After the Rain, Ancient Magus Bride, and the list goes on (they’re even doing the One Piece remake now!).
The studio was only formed back in 2012, and they already have such a wide range of classics under their belt. Maybe it’s because they’re extremely selective about the projects they agree to take on next. Much like Kyoto Animation or Madhouse Studio, WIT is very careful while picking projects, and their works almost always revolve around complex character development, mature storytelling, and, last but not least, sick animation!
How can anyone not know about the iconic Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 1 Kenny vs. Levi chase scene, or the fights in Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, or even the intense, gory fights in Vinland Saga? They’re masters at whatever they set out to create. So, judging by all that, where will Moonrise rank on WIT’s portfolio? Will it be at the top? After all, beating Attack on Titan isn’t a joke.
What we know about Moonrise so far and why WIT was the perfect choice for this adaptation
Moonrise is set in a sci-fi world, where viewers would be thrown into outer space, or more specifically to the moon! But what exactly happens there? As far as Netflix has disclosed, it seems the story takes place in a not-too-distant future where humanity is managed by an international AI network called Sapientia.

But things get interesting when a lunar development project draws disparity and poverty on the Moonlanders, leading to a full-blown conflict. In this series, we will follow Jacob “Jack” Shadow, who will join the Earth army, seeking revenge after losing his family to a terrorist bombing. And that’s where the real story begins! It already sounds like a treat for sci-fi lovers!
A little more info to gain your traction: this series is created by Tow Ubukata, who also has hands behind the classic anime, Psycho-Pass. So now, after knowing his involvement, people’s expectations are naturally sky-high.
The way WIT Studio can create a perfect harmony between sci-fi fights, as we’ve seen before in Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress or Vivy, suggests that Moonrise will have the highest level of expertise. It’s just a matter of time before we might see another anime series breaking the internet again. And it will be WIT’s time to shine!
Moonrise is set to be released on April 10, 2025, on Netflix.
