Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham franchise is like one of the seven wonders of the world. The entire series is an absolute treat to play, and many consider it one of the best franchises in the entire gaming industry. But fans of the series don’t just love it for its gameplay or narrative; another major element that brought the series to success is its villains.
Rocksteady gave the villains in the Arkham universe a new life, from Joker to Bane, each antagonist in the main storyline is written accurately to the comics. There is one such antagonist that has one of the most tragic backstories and is one of our favorite villains.

Of course, we are talking about Mr. Freeze, and the good news is that Giancarlo Esposito is setting his sights on playing Mr. Freeze in James Gunn’s DC Universe. Let’s delve deeper into the complex character of Mr. Freeze and explore why Esposito would be the perfect fit for the role.
Rocksteady can cast Giancarlo Esposito as the next Mr. Freeze
The Arkham games are a masterpiece, and Rocksteady’s re-imagination of the game’s villains enriched the characters even more. Mr. Freeze, who was already a pretty poignant character in the DC Universe, was made even more grim in the Arkham Universe.
Victor Fries, better known as Mr. Freeze, wasn’t always a mad villain. He was once a brilliant cryogenicist whose wife, Nora, suffered from the cruel Huntingdon’s disease, a genetic disorder that affected her brain and later rendered her paralyzed.
Desperate to save her, Victor places Nora in suspended animation while obsessively looking for a cure, but the corporation that funded his research pulls the plug (literally), which causes Nora to die and Victor to transform into Mr. Freeze.
As you can see, Mr. Freeze is a tragic character in the DCU, and that’s why he is the perfect character for Giancarlo Esposito. Esposito has a knack for playing complex characters with deep emotional resonance. After playing major roles like Gustavo Fring from the Breaking Bad series and Antón Castillo from Far Cry 6, it was kind of disappointing to see Esposito portray a minor antagonist character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It has been a while since we have seen Mr. Freeze on the big screen. The last time we got a Mr. Freeze debut was back in 1997 when the movie Batman & Robin came out. The chill scientist was played by none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger, who already set the bar high, but seeing Esposito in the role might make some of his fans tear up with joy.
The chilling villain from the DC Universe deserves a comeback

Although Giancarlo Esposito has already starred as Seth Voelker, a.k.a. Sidewinder, in the MCU, he is not satisfied with staying in just one universe. Esposito recently expressed his interest in playing Mr. Freeze in the James Gunn DCU to IGN at a FanExpo in Cleveland. Esposito’s ability to bring depth and nuance to morally conflicted characters makes him a prime candidate to reintroduce this beloved antagonist to a new generation of fans.
While we are not sure whether we will see Esposito in James Gunn’s new Batman reboot or not, one thing we are sure of is that we would definitely want our favorite chicken-man drug overlord to star in a new Arkham game as Mr. Freeze.
