Spider-Man 4 Reportedly Chooses a Villain Immortalized by the 1994 Animated Series

’90s superhero shows didn’t mess around with their interpretation of classic CBM villains, whether it be Mr. Freeze and Clayface from Batman: The Animated Series or the Chameleon from the Spider-Man show. Despite being aimed at kids, the show didn’t water down his creepiness, which is expected from a silent shapeshifting terrorist.

Although the character hasn’t been explored much on the silver screen since, barring Sony’s Kraven the Hunter, it appears the MCU might be putting him at the front and center of the webhead’s next solo big-screen expedition.

Chameleon is reportedly being considered for Spider-Man 4

As of now, Spider-Man 4 is slated for a July 2026 release, just months after the events of Avengers: Doomsday. But unlike Doomsday, whose cast was recently unveiled, the MCU has been tight-lipped regarding Spider-Man 4‘s details.

On the flip side, the lack of details hasn’t slowed down the barrage of rumors surrounding the release, and per semi-reliable scooper Jeff Sneider‘s recent insights, Spider-Man 4 might feature Chameleon as its next big bad. Elaborating on it, he alleged (via The InSneider):

They won’t necessarily be called ‘Chameleon’ because that character recently appeared in Kraven the Hunter, even though that movie barely scratched the surface of the character’s potential.

Even though Chameleon’s potential involvement does allude to a grounded story, given the other slew of rumors surrounding the release, which paints a very different picture, one should take it with a grain of salt.

Doomsday might skip Tom Holland and Chris Pratt if needed

One of the biggest surprises from the Doomsday cast reveal was the absence of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt. While some felt the MCU might pull another Hawkeye, as the next Spider-Man and Avengers releases are slated for mid-2026 and 2027 respectively, per Jeff Sneider, this might’ve to do with the actors’ scheduling conflicts.

Some of the actors in Marvel’s massive stable are still figuring out their summer shooting schedules.

Similar is also apparently the case with Pratt, as Sneider claimed:

However, if the Russos can catch him at the tail end of shooting, he might be able to swing it – it just depends on a variety of factors.

In addition to the uncertainty surrounding Pratt and Holland’s involvement in Avengers 5, per Sneider, the Russos might not shy away from proceeding without them if needed.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026.
