Buddy Daddies is the best anime for those who miss Sakamoto Days
Buddy Daddies revolves around Kazuki Kururu and Rei Suwa, two assassin best friends who live together. These contract killers take up various jobs, one of which leads to them killing a mafia boss. But soon after, they found out that the boss was actually a father to a four-year-old girl, Miri, who is now left clueless.
With Miri getting stuck in a gunfight due to the assassination, Kazuki and Rei are forced to rescue her and take her in. But two bachelors who have no idea about raising a kid and only know about assassination techniques aren’t really the best parent material. Still, the two tried their best to accommodate the situation.
Like Sakamoto Days, Buddy Daddies also deals with hitmen and the hitman world. They suddenly find a girl, which takes the anime from an action series to a sudden slice-of-life bend. It is humorous like Sakamoto Days and has a satisfying story which makes fans connect to it. Additionally, the excellent animation was also a huge plus.
Buddy Daddies took home the Crunchyroll Award for Best Original Anime
The 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards took place in Tokyo on March 2. It has several categories, including Anime of the Year, Best New Series, Best Film, Best Director, and more. Among the Best Original Anime nominees, Buddy Daddies beat everyone else to take the award home.
This win was not only anticipated but also deserved. It is a comfortable anime, a perfect fit for sitting together with family and friends or just a cup of coffee after a tiring day. Despite having no manga to rely on and no season 1 to increase its popularity, Buddy Daddies still managed to gain massive popularity.
Despite being a slice-of-life comedy, the anime did not sacrifice the action elements altogether. This is the exact field in which the Sakamoto Days anime failed. The story has a clear narrative, the conclusion is satisfying and despite being a single season series, it left fans with a delighted heart.
