QUINCY, Calif. – The Draft Tributaries Forest Recovery Project Environmental Assessment is being published Thursday, starting the 30-day public comment period on Friday, March 28.

The Draft Environmental Assessment is available on the Plumas National Forest website at https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/plumas/?project=63289.

The Tributaries Forest Recovery Project Environmental Assessment was drafted in partnership by Plumas Corporation and the Plumas National Forest.

Specific, solution-oriented comments that focus on the proposed actions or identify issues with the proposal would be helpful for planning efforts.

Electronic comments can be emailed to comments-pacificsouthwest-plumas@usda.gov, with “Tributaries Forest Recovery Project” in the subject line.  Comments regarding a specific community area should include the name of the community in the subject line as well.  Comments may also be sent to Attention: Travis Sanchez, Post-Fire Recovery Manager, Plumas National Forest Feather River Ranger District, 875 Mitchell Ave., Oroville, CA 95965.

The Tributaries Forest Recovery Project is in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) planning process proposing a variety of treatments on the approximately 163,248 acres in the project area. The Tributaries Project encompasses areas from Grizzly Ridge to Lake Davis and Delunga Peak up to Antelope Lake, Lights Creek, and Taylor Lake within the East Branch North Fork Feather River Watershed in northeastern Plumas County on the Beckwourth and Mount Hough Ranger Districts.

The project is intended to restore and recover National Forest System lands heavily impacted by recent wildfires, including the Dixie Fire in 2021 and the Walker Fire in 2019.

“The wildfires on the Plumas National Forest between 2019 and 2021 were devastating and burned approximately 65 percent of the Forest,” said Plumas Corps Executive Director Jim Wilcox.  “The partnership with the Forest Service to work on the Tributaries Forest Recovery Project Environmental Assessment is important in helping our communities and the forest recover from these fires and we are excited to start the public comment period and get closer to implementation.”
