Billie Lourd and her husband, Austen Rydell, are able to balance raising two children because they have each other.
“My husband is my best friend. We have so much fun together, and we’re in the trenches together with our kids,” Lourd, 32, jokingly told Us Weekly exclusively at the Tuesday, March 25, premiere of Mid-Century Modern at Los Angeles’ DGA Theater. “We always just make sure to remember that we’re each other’s best friend.”
Lourd and Rydell, 32, have been together on and off since 2016, getting engaged in 2020. The pair tied the knot in March 2022, one year after welcoming son Kingston. The duo welcomed their second child, daughter Jackson, in December 2022.
“I’m obsessed with my kids,” Lourd told Us on Tuesday. “It’s such a gift. I’ve wanted to be a mom my whole life and getting to do it is dreamier than any dream I could have ever dreamed. Absolutely beautiful. It’s awesome.”

The actress — the daughter of the late Carrie Fisher and talent agent Bryan Lourd — further revealed how she and Rydell balance parenthood with their busy careers.
“[Austen is] here with me right now, and he usually will take a photo with me,” Billie gushed. “He’s a producer [and] when he’s working, we bring our kids everywhere we go. I’ll go on set with him and then I’ll be, like, mom [and] wife at home. And then, when I’m working, he’s dad, husband at home. He’s the greatest human in the world and supports me in everything I do — and I support him in everything he does. We are each other’s cheerleaders. I’m kind of obsessed with him.”

Billie, for her part, recently filmed Hulu’s Mid-Century Modern, a new sitcom about three gay best friends (played by Matt Bomer, Nathan Lane and Nathan Lee Graham) who decide to move in together in Palm Springs, California, after the death of a mutual friend. Billie portrays the estranged daughter of Bomer’s character.
“It was so fun to get to play his daughter and also so emotional because if you watch the episode … he’s been estranged from her for so long and then reconnects,” Billie teased to Us of the 47-year-old actor. “But, he’s been through so much, and she’s been through much so, so much. It was so incredible to get to do it with Matt because he’s such a talented [actor]. I mean, the range on this man is absolutely unprecedented. It was really an awesome experience.”

It also was a dream for Billie to work with Lane, 69, on Mid-Century Modern.
“It’s actually bananas that I got to work with Nathan Lane. Just his voice alone is so powerful,” Billie raved. “When I ran into him in the parking lot the first time, it was literally, like, I don’t really get starstruck that much, but I was uber-starstruck so much that I said … I’ve seen him on stage and I just think he’s the bee’s knees.”
Mid-Century Modern premieres on Hulu Friday, March 28.
