Capcom Has Finally Confirmed That the Uth Duna Won’t Be the Only Leviathan In Monster Hunter Wilds

A character that hasn’t appeared in the main Monster Hunter games in roughly ten years is finally making a comeback in an upcoming update for Monster Hunter Wilds. In a recent video, Capcom touched upon the various new features that are coming to the game as part of the Title Update 1. At the end of the video, the studio teased what players should expect from the Title Update 2.

During the tease, we hear some aquatic sounds and get our first look at an upcoming monster’s foot. The community went wild as the foot belonged to Lagiacrus, a creature belonging to the leviathan monster class. The hype is particularly high because this monster hasn’t made an appearance in the franchise in roughly a decade.

Capcom dropped a video on YouTube titled “Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase” to put a spotlight on everything that is coming to the game as part of the Title Update 1. The update, which is releasing on April 4, 2025, features a new hub, new armor, cosmetic pieces, and new monsters.

Players were already excited about the new content, but Capcom took things to the next level by teasing the return of Lagiacrus in Title Update 2. This monster was supposed to make an appearance in 2018’s Monster Hunter: World, but the idea was scrapped.

It’s safe to say that there is more hype for Lagiacrus than Mizutsune, which will be added in Title Update 1. No fixed date has been provided for the Title Update 2, but Capcom has stated that it will roll out in Summer 2025. It seems like Capcom is working on a lot of new content for Monster Hunter Wilds, but that has negatively impacted another highly popular Capcom video game.

In the past, the Monster Hunter producer explained that Lagiacrus is a difficult monster to add to the game

Since its introduction in Monster Hunter 3, Lagiacrus has appeared in three more Monster Hunter games: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Monster Hunter Generations, and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. The monster was supposed to be added to Monster Hunter World but was cut from the final game due to animation issues.

In 2022, Monster Hunter producer Ryozo Tsujimoto told IGN that Lagiacrus is a difficult monster to add to the game. He said,

Unfortunately, Lagiacrus is just a very technological… difficult monster to implement. It’s very snake-like, its parts are all kind of touching the ground at different moments – So it’s very like a writhing sort of ground-based monster.

However, it seems like developers at Capcom have finally cracked the code. On Monster Hunter‘s 20th anniversary, a poll was created for players to vote for the most popular Monster Hunter series monster, and Lagiacrus secured the number 3 spot, which is enough to prove that this monster is quite popular among fans.
